Bayer established its presence in India in 1896, when the first wholly-owned subsidiary of Bayer in Asia “Farbenfabriken Bayer and Co. Ltd.” was set up in Mumbai. With Bayer expanding its activities in emerging markets, India is of strategic importance to Bayer’s activities worldwide.
Exclusive Focus on the Life Science Businesses
The Bayer Group in India includes the Crop Science and Pharmaceuticals divisions as well as the Animal Health business unit.
The Crop Science Division is Bayer’s largest business in India with businesses in Seeds, Crop Protection and non-agricultural pest control (Environmental Science). Seeds/Crop Protection markets a broad portfolio of high-value seeds and innovative pest management solutions, while at the same time providing extensive customer service for sustainable agriculture. The Environmental Science unit provides products and services for vector control and professional pest control.
The Animal Health Business Unit is part of the Crop Science Division and ranks among the leading international innovators in its field. It develops and markets products and solutions for the prevention and treatment of diseases in companion and farm animals.
The Pharmaceuticals Division focuses on prescription products, especially for cardiology and women’s health care and on specialty therapeutics in the areas of oncology, hematology and ophthalmology. The division also comprises the radiology business, which markets diagnostic imaging equipment together with the necessary contrast agents.
In India, the Pharmaceuticals Division operates as Bayer Zydus Pharma, a joint venture between Bayer and Zydus Cadila, which focuses on prescription products, especially for cardiology and women’s healthcare, and on specialty therapeutics in the areas of oncology, hematology and ophthalmology. The division also comprises the radiology business, which markets diagnostic imaging equipment together with the necessary contrast agents.
The Corporate Functions and Bayer Business Services operate as Group-wide competence centers in which business support services are bundled.
Our Corporate Societal Engagement (CSE) is based on four essential pillars: Empowering Women, Fostering Education, Fostering Rural Development and Preventive Health & Sanitation. With our support programs we see ourselves as investors, trendsetters and partners for initiatives and projects that have a model character, a long-term effect and thus the potential to achieve systemic change. Today, Bayer legacy CSE programs are being implemented in across 15 states across India at a budget of approximately INR 150 mio benefitting more than 190,000 people directly and 900,000 people indirectly.
