Developing Innovative Medicines and Enabling Better Treatment
Education programs - for self-determined family planning
As the market leader in hormonal contraception, Bayer has supported family planning around the world, for 50 years. The company is working together with partners to improve knowledge of sexuality, health and contraception in developing countries.
If unintended pregnancies are to be prevented, effective contraceptives must be accessible, wherever possible without obstacles. But this is not the only requirement. Teenagers and young adults must be free to decide for themselves whether they are ready to have a child and understand the consequences of their decision.
Increasing Awareness through Word Contraception Day
World Contraception Day (WCD) is a worldwide campaign with a vision for a world where every pregnancy is wanted. Its mission is to improve awareness of contraception to enable young people to make informed decisions on sexual and reproductive health. Under the motto "It's Your Life, It's Your Future", World Contraception Day focuses on empowering young people to think ahead and build contraception into their future plans, in order to prevent an unplanned pregnancy or sexually transmitted infection (STI).
Globally WCD is supported by a coalition of 11 international Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) with an interest in sexual health and is sponsored by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals. The organizations involved are dedicated to the principles of WCD and their expertise, credibility and influence are fundamental to shaping and driving the campaign forward.
World Contraception Day is an annual event that takes place on September 26. Every year, countries and regions around the world organize various events to mark World Contraception Day and to demonstrate their commitment to raising awareness of contraception and improving education regarding reproductive and sexual health.
The website www.your-life.com is an important part of the campaign and provides information on contraception and sexual health while promoting dialogue.
In India World Contraception Day is leveraged through awareness initiatives like a radio campaign and in-clinic activities sponsored by Bayer Zydus Pharma in association with the Family Planning Association of India (FPAI) and Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Society of India (FOGSI).
