Bayer conducts anti-counterfeit awareness drive in Punjab
- 15,000 farmers and 200 agri-retailers participate in anti-counterfeit awareness campaign held across Moga, Ludhiana and Barnala districts

Chandigarh, August 2, 2019: Crop Protection chemicals play an important role in preventing crop losses both before and after harvesting. Farmers buy crop protection products with the sole objective to protect their crop, enhance crop yields and secure better returns on the money invested by them. However, the use of unregistered and counterfeit crop protection products results in crop losses and severely impacts farmer incomes.
To educate farmers, dealers and agri-retailers on identifying genuine crop protection products, Bayer conducted a fifteen-day-long anti-counterfeit awareness drive in Punjab from July 16 to 31. Two mobile vans toured key farming communities across Moga, Ludhiana and Barnala districts, covering more than 15,000 farmers and 200 agri-retailers. Through classroom trainings, experiential learning, educational videos and interactive sessions, farmers learnt how to differentiate between genuine and non-genuine products at the time of purchase.
In India, Bayer has introduced CapSeal, an international packaging safety feature, for its leading insecticide brand FAME®, which has a tamper-proof cap and a unique QR code that can be scanned by farmers to verify product authenticity. In case of any doubt, the farmer can contact a local Bayer representative and also report a non-genuine product.
Farmers also received demonstrations on the use of ‘Bayer CapSeal Advanced’ mobile application (app) to scan genuine Bayer products and safeguard themselves from buying counterfeits. This initiative was especially appreciated by farmers using Bayer’s leading brands such as FAME®, NATIVO® etc. During the fifteen-day campaign, over 3,500 farmers from Punjab downloaded the ‘Bayer CapSeal Advanced’ app. Farmers not using smartphones can also verify product authenticity by sending a ten-digit alpha numeric code via SMS to 9167500000. This ten-digit code is mentioned on all the leading Crop Protection brands marketed by Bayer.
